Fernsehen Sondersendung zu Masoala: 28. März 2013

Am Donnerstag vor Ostern, dem 28. März 2013 um 21 Uhr, strahlt das Schweizer Fernsehen eine Sondersendung zum Thema Masoala aus, im Rahmen des wöchentlichen Wissensmagazins "Einstein" auf SRF 1. Eva Keller, Präsidentin des Vereins "Human Rights in Masoala", spricht in der Sendung zur Situation der einheimischen Bauern in Masoala. This coming June, the Zurich zoo's Masoala Hall celebrates its 10th anniversary. This is also a good opportunity for us to make our concerns known. Below are listed the association's activities thus far plus the activities that are planned for 2013.

Refusing farmers' humanity

Malagasy farmers are often said to be engaged in agricultural practices that will inevitably lead to the eventual destruction of the exceptional natural environment where they live. In order to prevent such a scenario, it is expected that they should always keep in mind the long-term effects of their subsistence practices.

New loss of land

According to a Malagasy newspaper (Midi Madagasikara), Madagascar National Parks intends to further extend the limit of the Masoala National Park, this time including an area of cultivated land where most of a small village's wet rice fields are located (the village concerned is Marofototra which lies a few hours walking distance to the south of Ambanizana, see map on our Mission Statement).

Online petition against the expulsion of Malagasy families from their land

The Collectif pour la Défense des Terres Malgaches (for a brief statement by its president Mamy Rakotondrainibe click here) has launched an online petition against the expulsion of Malagasy families from their land due to a number of causes. These causes include the creation of protected areas for nature conservation. The example of the Masoala National Park is mentioned in the petition. Visit and sign the petition at:
